Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority
The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority is the new name for the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority.
The new name took effect from the 1st March 2012. The Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority Act has been renamed as the Gaming and Liquor Administration Act.
Any references to the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority are to be taken as meaning the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority from that date.
The functions and responsibilities of the Authority are unaffected by the name change.
Under the Casino Control Act 1992 the Authority is the sole body responsible for regulation of gaming and liquor matters at The Star casino, encompassing both licensing and enforcement functions. Under the Liquor Act 2007, Gaming Machines Act 2001, Registered Clubs Act 1976 and related legislation, regulatory functions are shared between the Authority and the Director General of the Department of Trade and Investment, Regional Infrastructure and Services. Many functions are carried out by officers within that Department’s Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing under delegation from the Authority.
